As per the ancient tradition, the mountains of Vicenza is a district favourable to the cultivation of potato, an important resource for the local economy, where cereals and other products are struggling to develop. From various sources since the nineteenth century there have been news of the areas of the renowned cultivation in Vicentino. Among these Posina stands out, which in 1942 the director of the Agricultural Institute of San Michele, Professor Enrico Avanzi, the highest authority in the field of agricultural genetics, indicated as the holder of a native variety, the potato of Posenata. The main gastronomic event is the Festival of the natural Potato of Alto Astico and Tonezza, which takes place on weekends between September and October: the opportunity is very tempting, because at favourable prices you can taste here gnocchi in five different variants of sauce: butter and sage sauce, tomato and basil sauce, meat sauce, mushroom sauce and four cheeses sauce.
Later, on the last Sunday of October, the enthusiast climb up to make purchases in Posina at the Exhibition of Typical Products of Posina. As long as you get there early, because potatoes, beans and whatever else quickly fly off the stalls.
